WaveSleep · Alpha Original LLC
Last updated 20 August 2026
WaveSleep is built to need as little of your data as possible. There is no account, no sign-in, and nothing to log in to. Almost everything the app knows about you stays on your device.
What stays on your device
All of this is stored locally, in the app's own storage, and is never sent to us:
- Your mixes — which sounds you combine, their levels, tone and swell, and the names you give them.
- Your settings — theme, haptics, night sky, wake time, wake sound and wake volume.
- Your sleep journal — for each night: the date, how you rated it, how you said you were arriving at the evening check-in, which sounds were playing and at what levels, when playback started and stopped, whether a timer completed, how many times playback was interrupted, and how long you kept adjusting things before settling.
- An approximate location, only if you turn the night sky on and grant permission. See below.
Deleting the app deletes all of it. We have no copy and no way to recover it.
Location
If you enable the night sky, WaveSleep asks for location so it can draw the sky and the sunrise for roughly where you are.
- It requests reduced accuracy and then rounds the result to one decimal place — about 11 kilometres. It never has, and never asks for, your precise position.
- The rounded coordinate is stored on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.
- You can decline. The night sky still works; it just won't match your location.
Anonymous usage analytics
WaveSleep sends a small number of anonymous events to PostHog (servers in the United States) so we can see which features are used and whether things are breaking.
- There is no account, no advertising identifier, no IDFA, and no App Tracking Transparency prompt, because we do not track you across apps or websites.
- Events are identified only by a random identifier PostHog generates on the device.
- We do not send your mix names, your journal, your location, your contacts, or anything you type.
The events are: opening the app; starting or pausing playback; setting a timer; saving or reverting a mix; downloading a sound; showing the paywall; completing a purchase; changing theme; toggling the night sky; the alarm ringing, being snoozed or stopped; audio errors and route changes.
Every event also carries basic technical context: the app version, your iPhone model, the iOS version, your language and time zone, whether you are on Wi-Fi or cellular, and the screen size. None of it names you or your device — the model is "iPhone", not whatever you called it.
One of these deserves to be called out plainly. When you complete a check-in, we send the event `checkin_logged` together with the number you chose — your sleep rating in the morning, or how you said you were arriving in the evening. That is self-reported sleep information leaving your device. It is a bare number attached to an anonymous identifier, with no name, no date-stamped history and nothing else from your journal, but we would rather say so than let you discover it.
Purchases
WaveSleep Plus is sold through Apple. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card, your Apple Account, or your billing details. We record only that a purchase completed, and which of the two plans it was.
Sounds downloaded after install
The recorded nature sounds are hosted by Apple and downloaded when you first use them, so the app installs small. Those requests go to Apple, not to us.
Notifications and alarms
The morning check-in reminder and the wake alarm are scheduled on your device, by iOS. Nothing about them is sent to a server, and no push notifications are used.
What we never do
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. There are no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs in the app. We do not build a profile of you, and we could not identify you from what we receive.
Children
WaveSleep is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
- Delete everything: uninstall the app.
- Turn off location: iOS Settings → WaveSleep → Location.
- Ask about analytics: because events are anonymous, we usually cannot find "your" data — there is nothing tying it to you. If you can give us the identifier, we will delete what we can.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date above and the copy inside the app.

This is the same document that ships inside the WaveSleep app, rendered from the same file, and it is also published at wavesleep.netlify.app. If any two copies ever disagree, the one in the app you installed is the one that governs.
